The Race for First Place
November 16, 2013 – Orangeville
Author: Malcolm Brown
Final Score:  2-1

After a tough one goal Thunder loss to the Orangeville Flyers November 4th, the much anticipated rematch between the top two teams in the Minor Atom AE Harrison loop would not disappoint.  At stake, bragging rights of first place in the division.

Both teams came to battle, this was evident as they went toe to toe until late in the second period where the Flyers pressed hard to the net scoring, and then proceeded to carry their 1- 0 lead to the third period.

Connor was rock solid between the pipes, only to be equaled by the "Never give up" team effort of the Thunder.

Some adjustments by the coaching staff caught the flyers off guard allowing David to slide the puck to Evan and then to Michael for the equalizer. The Thunder didn't let up the pressure when they got into penalty trouble late in the third.

Player of the Game Erik stepped up to play center with Mitchell, as the defense provided exceptional support including Kyle who stood strong on the offensive blue line and repeatedly kept the puck in the zone.

Thunder teamwork continued to shut down the aggressive Flyers power play allowing  Michael to press deep into the oppositions zone where Evan  recovered a deflected puck and stepped passed the defenders firing a rocket  between the post and the goalkeeper's blocker for the shorthanded go ahead goal.

The Flyers who were not about to quit, pulled their goalie for the extra attacker before ultimately realizing they had been "THUNDERSTRUCK" 2-1 by the incredible heart of the Halton Hills team.

What an effort by each and every Thunder player.

It should also be mentioned; the Orangeville Flyers coach demonstrated extreme class and sportsmanship when he presented Evan with the game winning puck.
