Capital Mid-Season Showdown Finalists!
The Minor Atom AE team travelled to Ottawa this past weekend to compete in the Bell Sensplex Capital Mid-Season Showdown.
Starting the tournament against the home team Stittsville Rams, the Thunder started strong with a 3-2 win. The second game would be a tough one as the Minor Atom AE's were facing the Newmarket Redmen Minor Atom A team. Taking a fast 2-0 lead, the Redmen would soon know how the Thunder rolls in Halton Hills as the team tied the game on short handed goal! The Redmen would score 2 more in the second period but it was nothing but Thunder on the scoreboard for the 3rd ending in a 4-4 tie. The third game 5-0 win over the Quinte West Hawks sent the team to semi-finals to face the Stittsville Rams once again.
The team came out hard and showed the Rams that Thunder wanted the championship game with a 5-2 win.
Finals would be against the Kitchener Ranger Minor Atom A team, and although the team fought hard and scored another short handed goal, the Rangers took the lead with a 3-1 victory giving the Minor Atom AE Thunder the silver medal.
