Hockey Initiation Program (IP) Director Required

Halton Hills Minor Hockey is looking to fill the important volunteer position of HIP Director.

Hockey Initiation Program (IP) Director – Halton Hills Minor Hockey – 2019-2020

Job Description

 

Halton Hills Minor Hockey is looking to fill the position of the Hockey Initiation Program (IP) Director, for the upcoming 2019-2020 season.

Reporting to the Vice-President of House League (VP HL), the IP Director is a key role for the program and is responsible for overseeing three positions:

1.     Program Convenor

2.     Head Instructor

3.     Group Instructors (coaches)

Job Description – General – Weekly time commitment approx. 3-5 hrs as required

·         As an appointed member of the Board of Directors, attend all monthly/bi-monthly meetings. Work with the HHMH’s board of directors to efficiently run Halton Hills Minor Hockey, through participation in discussions.  Prepare and submit to the VP HL, a brief IP report for each meeting.

·         Understand the fundamental elements of the IP and demonstrate a commitment to the established goals of the IP

·         Coordinate and distribute weekly IP drills to coaches (per the Hockey Canada drills)

·         Has an enthusiastic attitude working with parents, administrators and young people

·         Comfortable speaking to parents and coaches, whether one on one or in a large group setting

·         Conflict resolution skills to deal with any potential issues with parents/coaches

·         Prepare a preliminary pre-season report and submit to the VP HL for review.  This report would contain potential expenditures for equipment/supplies required to operate the Initiation Program.  For example:

o    Equipment (pucks (blue and black), pylons (small and large), tennis balls, agility sticks, jerseys, instructor warm-up suits, whistles, etc.)

o    Supplies (paper, pens, markers, envelopes, binders, lesson manuals, etc.)

o    Room rentals (to conduct meetings)

 

·         Assist in the selection and training of head instructor(s)

·         Conduct a PARENT ORIENTATION MEETING to familiarize parents of prospective participants with the objectives of the IP, and how it is to be implemented in HHMH

·         Co-ordinate the initial evaluation of participants for grouping in the appropriate skill level

·         Set teams

·         Confirm scheduling with VP HL and Scheduler

·         Constantly communicate with VP HL and all staff, parents and players, in order to ensure the Initiation Program is operating according to all OMHA and HHMH rules and regulations

·         Co-ordinate special events (photo sessions, mini-games, etc.)

·         Ensure weekly ice sessions are on time

·         As required, help with on ice equipment setup

·         As required, help with on-ice instruction

·         Other duties as may be required
