2025 – Halton Hills Thunder, Weekend of Champs - Game Format and Rules

 

Warm-Up Time: 3 minutes

Game Periods:

·       Round Robin:

·  10-15-15

·  No timeouts

·  No OT

·       Finals:

· 15-15-flood-15

· One 30-second timeout per team

· OT

Additional Rules:

o   Running time will commence if the goal spread is 5+ in the 3rd period and revert to stop time if the spread is reduced to 3.

Point Structure for Preliminary Rounds

o   Win: 2 points

o   Tie: 1 point

o   Loss: 0 points

Tiebreaker Rules after the Round Robin:

o   Head-to-head game result.

o   Most wins in round robin.

o   Best goal differential (Goals For ÷ (Goals For + Goals Against)).

o   If the two teams remain tied after applying goal differential, the team with the fewest penalty minutes during the round robin will secure the higher position.

o   If the tie persists after assessing penalty minutes, the team that scored the first goal in their head-to-head game will gain the higher position.

 

Additional Rules:

This is a fair play weekend for all teams, any inappropriate behaviour during the round robin or finals will not be tolerated. Fighting will not be tolerated, and suspensions will be applied accordingly.

Finals

 

Timeouts: One 30-second timeout per team is allowed.

Tie at End of Regulation:

·  4-on-4 sudden victory overtime (5 minutes), teams will NOT switch ends.

·  3-on-3 sudden victory overtime (5 minutes).

·  If still tied, a shootout will commence to decide the winner.

·  Shoot out rules.

·  Select your first 5 shooters and so on…

·  The full shooting list is to be given to the referees prior to the game start.

·  The list is to include the entire player rosters available day of the finals.

·  If the teams are still tied after the first 5 shooters, you will continue through your team roster until all players have had an opportunity to shoot.

·  Best of 5 for the shootout, if still tied after 5 shots, each team will continue until the first team gains the point.

·  Any player who had a penalty not completed at the end of the OT is not eligible to shoot. The next player in line on the list will shoot.

4-on-4 Overtime Penalties:

·  A penalty reduces the team to 4-on-3.

·  If another penalty is called before the first expires, the second penalty starts after the first ends.

·  Players return only after their penalty ends and there is a stoppage in play.

·  Teams cannot be reduced to fewer than 3 skaters.

·  Penalties carry into the next period.

3-on-3 Overtime Penalties:

·  A penalty reduces the team to 4-on-3.

·  Players return only after their penalty ends and there is a stoppage in play.
