Despite a gritty effort the Sunny Acre Farms Midgets lost to Clarington AAA 5-4 in OT. Halton Hills had built a 3-1 lead in the second on goals by Mitchell Tickner after beating a Toro defenceman wide and tapping in his own rebound, a penalty shot goal by "crazy legs" Mat Hodgins who deeked and finished five hole, and Ryan Howard with his first of two walking off the side boards and finished low stick side. After a timeout the Toros gained some momentum and tied the game up 3-3. Late in the second Howard stole the puck and went speeding in on the Toros goalie burying a snap shot high glove to regain the lead. Not to be denied Clarington answered to tie the game back up at four heading to the intermission.
Despite numerous scoring chances the third period was dominated by the goaltenders as regulation time expired and the game went to overtime. In OT a questionable interference penalty gave Clarington a four on three advantage on which the scored the game winner. Howard's two goals earned him second star, and his one knee acceptance earned us respect from the row.
Things dont get any easier for the Thunder as the play the two time champion AAA St Catherines Falcons today at 1:00pm.
