  • Who is eligible to participate in the HHMH evaluations (tryouts)

U10 to U18 Rep and Advanced League (Select) evaluations are open to all registered Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) players. Player residency and eligibility must comply with OHF guidelines, policies, and rules.

U7MD, U8MD, U9MD evaluations are open to all registered Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) players.

Players are to purchase an Evaluation (tryout) card prior to the start of the tryouts.  All tryout cards will be purchased through the Hockey Canada Registration (HCR) system. Tryout cards will be open for registration early April 2025.

All players must be a member in good standing with Halton Hills Minor Hockey to participate in the tryouts.
  • Will Evaluation (tryout) cards be available for sale at the arena the day of the evaluations?

No, all evaluation (tryout) cards are to be purchased in advanced through the HCR. In the event you arrive to the arena without an evaluation card, you will need to purchase one through the HCR by using your cell phone, or electronic device prior to being permitted on the ice.
  • My child wants to start tryouts at a higher division than they currently play, should we purchase all the division (AA, A, B, BB) tryout cards?

If you plan to attend more than one division tryout,it is suggested that you purchase each division ( AA, A, B, BB) card as you go through the tryouts. This avoids overpaying for tryout cards in the event your child makes a division higher than what you have purchased cards for.

  • MD evaluations - what Tier does my child start at?

Players will start at Tier 1 for U8MD and U9MD evaluations. Each player will receive two evaluations at the Tier 1 level before any releases are made. If a player is released after the 2nd evaluation of Tier 1 (following the Tryout Tracking Number TTN), the player would attend the first evaluation for Tier 2. If there are conflicts, please see FAQ below regarding conflicts.

  • Where are the dates and times located for Evaluations (tryouts)?

All dates and times are located under the Tryout tab/Tryout schedule on the HHMH website.
  • Where can I find the Evaluation (tryout) policy

The player evaluation policy is located under the Tryout tab/Player Evaluation Policy.
  • What should players bring to tryouts?

Players should bring their full hockey gear (helmet, skates, gloves, pads, stick, etc.), water bottle, and a positive attitude. Players will receive a tryout jersey which is the players to keep.
  • With respect to the Rep Player tryout cards - if a player purchases only to try out for B/BB are they still eligible to attend the skills pre-tryout sessions?

The skill skates are separate from the evaluations and are open to all current registered HHMH players.
  •
  • How are players selected?

Players are selected based on skill level, attitude, and coachability.
All tryouts will be evaluated by the Head Coach and Independent Evaluators.
The Head Coach reserves the final decision.
  • What happens if we purchased a tryout card for a division and the team folds due to player registration numbers?

In the event a team folds due to lack of players, you will be refunded your evaluation card fee.

  • My child has a conflict/is sick/or Injured during the tryouts, what do we do

Players with conflicts are eligible to be selected for a team. If your child has a conflict, the player is responsible to advise the Head Coach. Players are to follow the tryout tracking process.

Note: An evaluation (tryout) card must be purchased for the division (level) the player is trying out for regardless of a conflict.

The player may be evaluated for selection to a team without attending evaluations based on what the Head Coach already knows about the player’s abilities.
  • What is a Tryout Tracking Number (TTN)

All players trying out for a HHMH rep team will be provided with a Tryout Tracking Number (TTN)

The TTN will be send via email prior to the start of each division tryout.
  •  The TTN is how a player will track their progress throughout the evaluations (tryouts).
Players will start at their applicable entry/option point.  From there:
    • The player will visit the HHMH website, find their division trying out for and select the Tryout Player List.
    • Once the list is updated (it may show that it is not displayed due to coach currently updating the page), you will see CODE and STATUS as headers.  The code shows the TTN (tryout tracking number) on the left and STATUS on the right.  Possible outcomes are:
    • If STATUS shows “Released”, the player has been released from that division’s (level) tryout and has the option to attend the next division.
    •  If STATUS is blank, you will return for the next on ice skate.  If after the last on ice skate, it shows blank, there is an opportunity (by invite only) to attend an exhibition game(s) scheduled for that division.  To see if your player is to attend one of those games, look to the coach notes on the Tryout Player List to look for the list of TTNs that will be attending the game or other notes regarding that division’s tryouts.
    • All players will be informed within a reasonable time frame (usually 2 to 4 hours) via the website. With HHMH tryouts being a mix of on-ice sessions and exhibition games (TBD), please see below as to what to expect during the tryouts:
    • Note; if the player has been invited to play in an exhibition game the player’s TTN will be in the banner on the Age/Division TTN page.
    • New information/instructions that the coach needs to inform the players of will be updated on the header of the TTN page.
    • Example: The player has been selected to play in exhibition game 1 for the AA team and was not released after exhibition game 1 and is not playing in exhibition game 2, the player can still be released after exhibition game 2.  The Head Coach may require more time with decisions based on watching the players in exhibition game 2.
  • Where can I find the Evaluation (Tryout) Policy for HHMH?

The Evaluation/Tryout policy can be found under the Tryout Tab, click on the Player Evaluation Policy.
