SILVER STICK FINALIST
The Novice AA Thunder participated in the Brampton Silver Stick Tournament over the Christmas break and played with heart, perseverance and determination earning them the finalist medal.
In the opening game the Thunder defeated the Kent Cobras 5-1. In the second game the Thunder tied Orangeville Flyers 3-3 and killed off a 5 on 3 for the final 2 minutes of the game. In the final game of the round robin we played in the Brampton Beast home arena and the Thunder shut out the Whitby Wildcats 4-0.
The Thunder advanced to the semi-finals as the 2nd seed and faced the Centre Wellington Fusion. In a tight game, the Thunder won 3-2 scoring 1 minute into the overtime period after killing off a penalty with 1:46 left in the game.
With the Semi-Final win the Thunder advanced to the Championship Game to face the Guelph Gryphons. The Thunder came out strong and put lots of pressure on but the first period ended 0-0. The second period saw Guelph score 2 goals to lead 2-0 after two periods. In the third period, Guelph got the third goal but the Thunder fought back and made it 3-1 with 4:38 left in the game. The Thunder put lots of pressure on in the final 4 minutes but just came up short and lost 3-1. It was a great effort throughout the tournament by all the Thunder players. Every player should be proud and hold their heads high as the 2014 Silver Stick Novice AA Finalist.
