The Halton Hills Thunder Minor Atom A's brought thunderous Christmas Spirit to the Georgetown Santa Claus Parade on Sunday, November 16th.
The day started with the team gathering to decorate the float, titled "Deck The Hockey Halls". The float was a tribute to the three Halton Hills Arenas - Moldmasters, Acton, and the now closed Georgetown Memorial Arena.
The float included about 1000 light bulbs, presents wrapped in an assortment of Halton hockey jerseys, and a hockey stick Christmas tree. Only one spotlight and the Christmas Tree were harmed in the making of this float! Signs were posted all around the float to promote the team, such as the joining of the Acton Tanners and Georgetown Raiders to become the Halton Hills Thunder. The float represented the team and our new organization very well! The 9-0 score on the scoreboard (9 for the age of the team) was a big hit with the kids!
Powered-up after a nutritious lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs, peameal bacon, chips, donuts, and cupcakes, the Thunder walked the parade route carrying two hand-made Stanley Cups, high-fiving the crowd as they went by. The team even had two of Santa's elves joined them all decked-out in red body suits! The team kept pace with "Thunderstruck" by AC/DC blasting on the stereo.
The parade brought out what is best about the Minor Atom A's:
- TEAM WORK - everyone working together to construct the float and represent the team well during the parade.
- FUN - everything from spirited games of ball hockey and HALO battles in the woods.
- SPIRIT - genuine excitement from the boys throughout the day. Even the parents got into the act, thanks to the Stephanie's in their red suits!
- FAMILY - siblings and parents alike joined in the fun!
A great way to start the second half of the season! LET'S GO THUNDER!
