Convenors are assigned to one HHMH House League Division and are a critical part of our House League hockey program.  You will see below the importance of a Division Convenor.  In the past, a Division would continue without a Convenor, however, now we are unable to run a Division without a dedicated Convenor.  It is critical we have Convenors in place by September 1stfor training and participation in Evaluation Day on September 10th

Please note your players Division will not be able to start playing until a Convenor is in place.

The time commitment is approximately 3 to 4 hours per week and starts September 10 for Division Evaluations and runs through to the ‘Weekend of Champs’ at the end of March.

Due to the time commitments and responsibilities of a Convenor, it is preferred that Convenors are not Coaches in their Divisions.

So what does a Convenor do?  Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Manage your Division within the spirit, rules, and regulations of HHMH
  • Participate and lead Evaluation day
  • Coordinate Draft Day for your Division
  • Communicate Opening Day details and be present to ensure all the Coaches have all they need
  • Ensures that all Head Coaches within your division understand their obligations for the season, including practices, additional training offered, game days, tournaments, conflict resolution

  • Represent your Division in dealing with any incident meriting attention which may occur at the arena
  • Reviews automatic suspensions assessed by the Game Officials and communicate any matters relating to a disciplinary review to House League Executives
  • Ensure that managers/coaches are provided schedules, House League rules, equipment, uniforms, and team lists prior to the commencement of each season.
  • Be present on game days – liaison for parents, Coaches and the League  - ensure that Coaches and parents are acting within the spirit, rules and regulations of OMHA and HHMH.
  • In conjunction with Division Coaches, ensure that teams are fair and balanced by mid-November
  • Provide Registrar with team roster including coaching staff
  • Ensure Coaches have the required credentials
  • Assist Coaches with questions and concerns
  • Familiarize yourself with Halton Hills Minor Hockey and OMHA (Ontario Minor Hockey Association) rules
  • Assist teams/coaches/officials/parents with resolving conflicts and concerns
  • Act as correspondent between the coaches and the HHMH League
  • Attend Convenors meetings on a bi-monthly basis
  • Communicate to Coaches and parents league events ie. Picture day, Christmas Tournament, Weekend of Champs
  • Assist in the organization of League events as required – ie. Manage your division for tournaments, picture days, weekend of champs
  • Maintain division scores and standings
  • Represent your Division at the two tournaments – Christmas and Weekend of Champs – create an environment that is fun and educational for the players and well communicated for the parents
